The CDC recommends everyone age 6 months and older get a fall 2023 COVID vaccine. Our office now has a limited supply of the vaccine available for our patients. Please let us know ahead of time if you will be requesting the vaccine at an upcoming visit (i.e. well visit, flu shot appt, etc.), and we will reserve a dose for you.
Shipping from the manufacturers to offices is fragmented. We ask for your patience as we secure more vaccine. Some local pharmacies have limited supply and are able to vaccinate patients 3 years of age and older in the state of Pennsylvania. You can check www.vaccines.gov
to find a location near you that is carrying the vaccine. We will continue to update this news item when/if we run out, and when we receive more.
This fall vaccine targets just one strain of COVID-19 (in other words, it’s a monovalent vaccine, as opposed to last fall’s bivalent vaccine). This vaccine targets a recent variant of the omicron strain, called XBB.1.5.
A note about insurance: due to the end of the COVID-19 emergency declaration, vaccines are no longer provided by the government, and manufacturers are charging for them. We have found that some insurance plans are covering the vaccine, but others may not be. We highly recommend that you check with your insurance plan to see if the vaccine will be covered BEFORE having your child receive it. Don't assume that it will be covered. If it isn't, you will be responsible for the cost of the vaccine. The cost of a COVID vaccine ranges from $115-$190.
